William was the son of Jacob Eye of Pendleton County, VA (WV). He enlisted in the 62nd VA Mounted Infantry Regt in 1862 and was captured at Franklin, WV on Aug. 1864. He was sent to Camp Chase on Aug. 20, 1864 and died from disease on Feb. 25, 1865.
