BURIAL OF W. H. SHEARMAN
It Was Made Yesterday - The Brain Taken Out
The burial of the late W. H. Shearman took place from the family residence, 513 East Second South, yesterday at 12 o'clock. The funeral was held Wednesday, but upon the request of the Hon. Thomas G. Shearman of New York, brother of the deceased, the interment was postponed till yesterday to admit of an autopsy over the remains.
Rev. F. W. Norris of the Episcopal Church officiated at the burial services. The pallbearers were Chief Paul, H. W. Lawrence, S. W. Sears, LeGrand Young, J. B. Farlow and Benjamin Hampton. The burial placed was Mount Olivet Cemetery.
A special meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be called at once for the purpose of framing memorial resolutions on the death of Mr. Shearman, who was so long an active member of the Chamber.
The brain of W. H. Shearman, the capitalist who died in this city recently, was removed from the skull Wednesdday by Doctors Pinkerton and Fowler, who placed it in alcohol and gave it in charge of Druggist J. B. Farlow, who will today ship it to the Thompsonian Institute in Philadelphia. This is in compliance with an agreement made many years ago by the deceased with his brother, Thomas G. Shearman, a famous New York Lawyer, it being then stipulated that the brain of him who died first would be examined for the benefit of science. The brain half fills a gallon jar, and its exact weight will be determined before it is shipped.
