Linda Eileen Parsley, 59, a 36- year resident of Leavenworth and a former educator in the Cascade School District, died Sunday morning, April 28, 2002, at her home, following an extended illness.

She was born Linda Eileen Flathers on Jan. 20, 1943, to Howard G. and Ruth (Langdon) Flathers at Walla Walla. The family later moved to Prescott, where Linda grew up and received her education, graduating from Prescott High School in 1961. She then attended Whitworth College for two years and then the University of Washington, where she received her teacher's certificate in 1965. She later received her Masters Degree in Technology from Seattle University.

Linda accepted a position with the Leavenworth School District in 1966, and for the next 30 years gave of herself in teaching students of the district, retiring from the Cascade School District in 1996.

On April 4, 1981, she married Brice Parsley at Leavenworth.

She loved her family deeply and always had a special relationship with her students, one that returned respect. Linda loved people and enjoyed interacting with them. Throughout her years at Cascade, she coached track, softball, volleyball and basketball. She also refereed girls' basketball games for many years. She was a recipient of many awards and achievements. She was recently honored by the Cascade School Board and awarded a "Making a Difference Award."

On Feb. 9, 2002, she was presented an honorary award by the Cascade Boosters Club, for service to the school district, for being instrumental in the development of womens' sports in the upper valley. She was team captain of the Royal Bavarians after 50's softball team and played on the Jack and Jill's softball league team. Linda and Brice gave of themselves on Thursdays at the golf course, helping others to learn the sport of golf. She received many awards in golf and was a past Women's Division Golf Club Champion several times. She had a hole-in-one at the Chelan Golf Course on hole #18, and was Kahler Glen Golf Ladies Champion in 1998.

Linda was author of "Dancing with Mules," history of Northern Walla Walla County and the Greenville Family geneology. She attended the Leavenworth Community United Methodist Church and was a member of the Leavenworth Golf Club, Leavenworth Senior Citizens Center, Bavarian Volkssport Association (BVA), Wenatchee Area Geneology Group, lifetime member of National Education Association, Washington State Retired Teachers Association, Cascade Boosters Club, Leavenworth Winter Sports Club, past officer of the Leavenworth and Cascade Education Association, past president of IVEST Investment Club, past president of the Ladies Golf Division, Captain of Leavenworth golf team in Apple Valley Golf League and a past member of the Pink-Garter Theatre Group.

Survivors include her husband, Brice, of the family home; one stepdaughter, Cheryl Ann Parsley, and stepson, Michael Robert Parsley, both of Leavenworth; her mother, Ruth Langdon Flathers, of Walla Walla; sisters, Beth E. McDonald, of Kelso and Sherry M. Groom of Dayton; brother, David H. Flathers, of Walla Walla; four granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Howard G. Flathers, and one brother, John E. Flathers.

A Memorial Service of Commemoration to Celebrate the Life of Linda Eileen Parsley will be conducted at 7 p.m. Saturday evening, May 4, 2002, in the Leavenworth Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Lindsy Ireland officiating. Private Inurnment will be in the Prescott and Leavenworth Cemetery. There will be a Potluck/Open House on Saturday from 3 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the Senior Center in Leavenworth.

Memorials may be made in her name to the Central Washington Hospital Hospice, Cascade Schools or the Leavenworth Senior Citizen Center.
