Effie V. Caulkins was one of nine surving children of Orin and Sarah Loomis Caulkins. She married first to William H. Cronan at Algona, Kossuth Co. Iowa and had two children: Clyde and Mae. Her second marriage was to Harlow Hazard Higley at Cedar Falls, Black Hawk Co. IA in July of 1889. They had one son, Orin Harlow Higley, who lived on the border of Oregon and Washington. He is believed to be buried in Wasco Co. Oregon, but that remains to be proved. Effie married third to Mr. Berger and that is all I know about him except that about 1909 they adopted twin baby boys, Carl and Victor. Victor was weak and died ten days after they adopted him.
