According to her obituary in the Waterloo Courier (Feb. 9, 1942):
Mrs. May Cronan, 59, died at 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 8, 1942, in St. Francis Hospital of carcinoma. She lived with a son, William, Route 1, and had been ill about six months and a patient in the hospital about one month. May Avery was born in New York City in 1882 and had lived here about 20 years. She was married to Clyde Cronan, who died several years ago. Surviving are two sons, William, and Mervin, Algona, Iowa, and a brother, Mervin Avery, living in Canada. Mrs. Cronan was a member of the Salvation Army. The body was taken to the Kearns Garden chapel.
