Warren McKinley Hardin, 84, of Gladstone Avenue died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.

Mr. Hardin retired from Cosco after 39 years of employment. He was of the Protestant faith and was commander of VFW Post No. 1987 from 1978 through 1980.

A Marine Corps veteran of World War II, he was on a hospital ship in the harbor when the American flag was raised on Iwo Jima. He was wounded in Guam and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery, and military graveside rites will be conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Memorials may be made to the children's ward at Columbus Regional Hospital because of Mr. Hardin's love of children.

Born in Kentucky Dec. 15, 1920, Mr. Hardin was the son of James J. and Corellia Webster Hardin.

He is survived by brothers, William A., John T., Benjamin F., Richard A. and Todd C. Hardin, all of Columbus; and sisters, Virginia Atwood of Augusta, Ga., Alice Allen of Texas, Florence Hall and Marjorie Wade, both of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell Hardin, who was killed in World War II, Guss D. and James L. Hardin; and sisters, Lavana Bell Jackson and Barbara Bowles.
