Son of the late Joseph Berlin Smith & Della Jane Puffenbarger Smith.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and participated in the D-Day landing on Omaha Beach in Normandy, France. He was recipient of the Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
Mr. Smith retired from the U.S. Postal Service with 23 years of service.
Husband of Joy A. Mitchell Smith.
Also survived by their daughters, Jean S. Higgins, Churchville & Dawn S. Armstrong, Middlebrook; son, Sonny Smith, Churchville; four grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at the Obaugh Funeral Home in McDowell; Rev. Beth Pyles presided.
