Beckman, Beatrice L. "Beatie", 84, of Shelby, passed away Monday, Oct. 17, 2005 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. She was born Sept. 5, 1921 in Grand Rapids, the daughter of Zenas and Bernice (Waters) Morningstar. She was raised in Shelby and worked at the telephone office in town. She lived in Grand Rapids for several years, working at Lear. Mrs. Beckman came back to Shelby to live permanently following World War II. She married Lavern "Tuff" Beckman Oct. 29, 1949. Mrs. Beckman is survived by her husband, Tuff; her son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Sandra Beckman of New Era; her sister, Dorothy Wiswell of Shelby; many nieces and nephews and her beloved cats Molly and Daisy. Visitation is tentatively scheduled for today (Thursday, Oct. 20) 6-9 p.m. at the funeral home. The funeral service will be Friday, Oct. 21 at Harris Funeral Home. The time of service was not available at press time. Interment will be in Mennonite Cemetery. It is suggested that those who wish consider Hackley Lakeshore Hospital as a memorial.
