Archibald Greenville "Archie" Smith, was born July 20, 1877 in Washington County, Arkansas and attended school there. he married Elizabeth Love Gilbreath July 7, 1901 in Pitkin, Arkansas and they resided and farmed in West Fork, Arkansas until the 1930s, when they moved to Atwater, California. They purchased fifty acres of peach orchards, where they lived until 1946. They retired from farming and moved to Merced, California where they have since resided. Mrs Smith preceded him in death on Apr 12, 1955. Mr Smith is survived by a son, Mr Kenneth E Smith of San Diego, three daughters, Mrs Roberta Shermer of Fresno, Mrs Margaret Gaither of Atwater and Mrs Helen Couey of Chico and 11 grandchildren. Besides his wife, he was also preceded in death by a son, Conrad A Smith of Atwater.
