Peter Imel Passed Away At Home in Sugar Creek Township At Noon Today

Peter Imel, one of the widely known elderly residents of Shelby County, passed away at his home in Sugar Creek township, shortly after the noon hour today, after being confined in his bed for the past four weeks. Death was due to a complication of diseases from which Mr. Imel had been a sufferer for the last year.

He was born in Johnson county in 1839 and moved to this county five years later. After several years residence in Shelby county he moved to Illinois, where he resided for three years, from where he removed to Shelby County and settled in Sugar Creek township where he has resided ever since. Mr. Imel was married to Miss Caroline Mather, Jan. 1, 1868, in Indianapolis.

The people of Sugar Creek township and the Fairland community are at a bereavement over the loss of a man that has always stood for highter ideals in the section of the county in which he lived. He was a member of the Baptist church at Fairland and has taken an active part in the work of the church since it was organized.

His wife and six sons and two daughters survive. The sons are Frank of Fairland; Harry of New Castle; George living on the home place; Herbert of South Bend; Ralph of Layayette, and Paul who is with American's fighting forces in France. The daughters are Mrs. Ivy Haley of West Newton, and Mrs. Anna Atkinson of Plainfield.
