On the 1860 Census for Monroe, Monroe County, Michigan the family is found listed under the names of Andrew Sawyer, Farmer and Rebacca Sawyer.
She operated Mrs. R. Sawyer's Boarding House at 60 South A Street, Capitol Hill which was a short distance from the east of Capitol Square. She also was a clairvoyant to support her family. Her husband had been employed in the folding room of the House of Representatives and had been in a Michigan regiment.

Sawyer. On the 9th instant, Mrs. Rebecca Sawyer, aged forty-five years. Her funeral will take place today (Tuesday) at 3 o'clock, from the residence of her sister, Mrs. Anderson, No. 723 Twenty-third Street Northwest. Her relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
