Gladys Pennington Kuhn, 88, of Columbus died Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her granddaughter's residence in Caledonia. Visitation will be held Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Services will be Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Gunter & Peel, with Revs. Ron McDougal and Tony Proctor officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Friendship Cemetery. The daughter of the late James Grady and Ruby Redus Pennington, Mrs. Kuhn was born September 15, 1922 in Columbus. She was a 1940 graduate of Stephen D. Lee High School. She worked at Columbus Air Force Base from 1942 to 1944. Then she worked for Columbus Beauty and Barber Supply Company, retiring after 24 years of employment. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Stuckenschneider Sunday School Class. Beginning in 1989, she was one of the original group of volunteers for Helping Hands, and she also supported Palmer Home and the Sherriffs' Boys and Girls Ranch. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Kam A. Clark, brothers James Grady Pennington, Jr. and George M. " Buddy " Pennington, son-in-law Donald W. Atkins and and brother-in-law Jack Miller. She is survived by her husband Leonard W."Corky" Kuhn of Columbus, her sisters Nancy P. Timm (Ray) and Evelyn P. Miller, both of Columbus; her granddaughter Paige A. Bishop (Terry) and great granddaughter Tiffany N. Welch (Josh), all of Caledonia. Pallbearers will be Richard "Poogie" Laws, Shawn Dyson, Buddy Dyson, Jimmy Wilder, Mike Miller, Kim Johnson and Bill Laws. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Stuckenschneider Sunday School Class. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Health Clinic, P.O. Box 661, Columbus, MS 39703 or to the donor's choice.
