OGDEN - Joseph Arave passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

Joe was born in Hooper, Utah on June 9, 1924 to Albert Keith Arave and Emma Emiline Cottle Arave. He was the second of nine children, five of whom are still living.

Joe grew up in Hooper, Utah. He learned about hard work working on the farm which served him well in his life. He joined the service in 1943 served in the South Pacific and returned home in October of 1945. Shortly thereafter he met the love of his life, Carolyn McFarland Arave, and have had 64 wonderful years together. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in 1954. They truly have become one. They were blessed with three children Connie A. Haycock, J. Brent Arave residing in Indian Wells California, and Jolene Arave living in Ogden. Joe was the Patriarch of eight grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and then two great- great-grandchildren.

Joe and Carolyn served a LDS Mission in Tucson, Arizona, which was one of the highlights of their life. Joe served in various Priesthood capacities, and with the youth.

Joe is survived by his wife, two children, four sisters Doris Moss, Leone Haefner, Margerie Lewis, and Marlene Baird, and one brother Kenneth Arave.

Preceded in death by his parents, daughter Connie Haycock, and his sister Helen Carbine. Contributions can be made to the Breast Cancer Foundation in memory of his daughter, Connie. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Family will meet with friends at the mortuary on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
