"Grayson D. 'Buzz' Shealer, 82, of 120 Harrison Ave., Waynesboro, and a guest of Moshannon Heights in Philipsburg, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, in the Presbyterian Home of the Moshannon Valley in Philipsburg. Born Oct. 25, 1919, in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late William Martin and Grace Gertrude (Dillman) Shealer. He lived his early life in the Gettysburg area. Mr. Shealer graduated from Gettysburg High School with the Class of 1937. He served in the United States Army during World War II as a first sergeant in the European Theater of Operations with the 728th Ordnance Co., 28th Infantry Division. He received the European, African and Middle Eastern service medals with five bronze stars. In 1997, he was honored by Adams County for his Normandy service. He and his wife of more than 59 years, Mrs. Hazel (Humerick) Shealer, also a guest of Moshannon Heights, were married July 11, 1942, in Alexandria, La. They lived most of their married life in the Waynesboro area before moving to Philipsburg to be closer to their son. Mr. Shealer was employed as a salesperson for Wayne Distributors of Waynesboro. When living in Waynesboro, he was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro. Mr. Shealer was a 50-year member of both William 'Max' McLaughlin VFW Post 695 and Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, both of Waynesboro. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Dennis G. Shealer of Philipsburg; two grandchildren; three sisters, Mildred Barnes and Coretta Redding, both of Gettysburg, and Eleanor Culp of Chestertown, Md.; two brothers, Billy Shealer of Carlisle and Richard Shealer of Aspers; a sister-in-law, Eva Shealer, Gettysburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patricia McCarthy, and three brothers, William Shealer, Ray Shealer and Earl Shealer. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, with the Rev. Richard A. Seaks officiating. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Presbyterian Home of the Moshannon Valley, 200 Medical Center Drive, Philipsburg, Pa. 16866. Military graveside services will be conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard of Chambersburg."
