He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harry E. and Dora Pearl (Coyler) Dougal. He married Hilda Mae Barley on Sept. 6, 1950, in Altoona, and she died March 1, 1996.
Surviving are a daughter, Mary Frances David and husband, Michael; a son, Robert M. and wife, Connie; six grandchildren: Michaela Lynn Chamberlain and husband, Justin, Mallory Lynn David, Danielle Winters, Cristin Winters, Megan Winters and Matthew Winters; a great-grandson, Travis James Smith II; and three brothers: Glenn E. and wife, Dawn, Ronald W. and wife, Carol, and Howard E. and wife, Casie.
He was preceded in death by an infant brother, Kenneth.
Bob was a 1948 graduate of Altoona High School. He retired as a gunnery sergeant from the U.S. Marine Corps. He began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1950 and retired from Conrail in 1992 as a sheet metal pipefitter.
He was an active member of the Blair County Game, Fish and Forestry Association, Jaffa Shrine, Legion of Honor, Roadrunners and Railroaders, and he volunteered at the Van Zandt VA Medical Center and Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., Alto-Reste Park Cemetery (www.thegoodfuneralhomeinc.com), where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, by Pastor Ken Anthony. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park.
