On the 1860 Kerrs Creek, Dist. 5, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer Madison Dunlap, 51 with $20K in real estate, plus other Dunlaps: (female) M. Henderson (Hanna), 48; (the rest are male Dunlaps) J. Wm. (Jno M), 23; S. Mackey (Saml McKee), 17; Wm M., 13; M. Kyle (Milton P.), 9; W. White (WALTER Wharton), 7 and O. Benj. (Oklela Beverlin), 5 plus a seamstress, etc.

On the 1870 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer (male) M. Dunlap, 51 with $24,400 in real estate and other Dunlaps: Martha H., 58; Laborers: Samuel, 27; Wm M., 23; Milton, 20; WALTER W., 17 and Oklelia B., 15, all VA born. Other laborers and probably domestic with her young children resided with them. R K Dunlap and family lived nearby.

Walter W. Dunlap, age 25, single, born Rockbridge, lives in Rockbridge, farmer, the son of M. and M. H. Dunlap, & Jennie McMath, age 22, single, born Rockbridge, lives in Rockbridge, the daughter of Jno. S. and M. J. McMath, were married on 30 Oct 1878, D. A. Penick officiated. Louise M. On the 1880 Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found farmer W W Dunlap, 27; wife Sarah J., 25 and brother O B Dunlap, 25 plus 2 servants and a daily laborer and his 9 year old son, all VA born.

On the 1900 Lexington, Rockbridge Co., VA census, I found salesman Walt W Dunlap, 44, Mar 1857; wife Mattie or ?, 40, Apr 1860, she's had no children, both (and their parents) were born in VA (This is the closest census, that I found).

On the 1910 Mt. Vernon, Fairfax Co., VA census, I found farmer Walter W Dunlap, 57, married 31 years to wife Sarah J., 53, had no children, both VA born.

Walter Wharton Dunlap was born on 12 Jan 1853 in Kerrs Creek, Rockbridge Co., VA, to parents Madison Dunlap and Martha H McKee. He was a married civil engineer. On 29 Nov 1919, he died in Kerrs Creek, VA. The informant was O B Dunlap. VA Cert. of Death #28201.

Walter shares the monument with his wife J. McM or Sarah Jane "Jennie."
