Even though she lost her mother when she was four months old and her father when she was five years old Mrs. Griffis was given tender, loving care by her grandparents, Charlie and Annie Bryant and her devoted aunts. Mrs. Griffis grew up in the Riverdale Community near Knightdale, NC and attended Malabys Cross Road Baptist Church and Riverdale School. Mrs. Griffis always wanted to be a nurse and even though she didn't have the formal training she spent her lifetime giving her very special loving care to the sick in her family as well as those in her community.
From age thirteen she lived with her blind aunt, Sylvia Bryant, with each giving the other love, support and friendship. At this time she was employed by the Coy Pool family and gave five generations of this family her devotion which was returned in full measure.
She was united in Holy Matrimony at Springfield Baptist Church to Donie Griffis, March 28,1945. He preceded her in death June 9, 1973.
Mrs. Griffis' warm smile and genuine friendship won her endearing goodwill with people from all walks of life and all ages. She influenced many people in her quiet way and shared her hobbies of cooking and gardening, vegetables and flowers, with her hosts of friends. She didn't have children of her own but was an excellent mother figure for the babies and children she cared
for into adulthood.
Springfield Baptist Church was the joy of her life.
She leaves nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends to cherish her memory.
