Alice Irene (Pool) Brokaw, daughter of John T. and Rose E. (Miller) Pool was born on July 3, 1915 on a farm in Seward County, Nebraska. She passed away on January 10, 2011 at her home in Hebron, Nebraska at the age of 95 years, 6 months, and 8 days. Alice was one of nine children born to her parents. She attended country school district #59 and graduated from Utica High School. Alice married Henry I. Brokaw on June 5, 1935 at Glenwood, IA. To this union was blessed with two children, Leland and Joann. During Alice's lifetime she lived in Seward County, Fremont and Hebron. She was a waitress off and on most of her adult life until she went to work as a clerk in Hested Dime Store in Hebron. She worked there for 9+ years. In 1962 she became the bookkeeper for Pool and Brokaw Garage (her husband's business) and continued on after the business was sold and became Rod's Radiator Shop. She quit there in 1984 and was a homemaker from then until her death. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Henry on January 23, 2002; her son Leland November 30, 2009; her brothers George, Leslie, Arthur, John, and Ralph Pool; her sisters Hannah Pool, Alta Bouchard, and Elsie Brokaw; and her great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Brayton. She is survived in death by her daughter Joann (Melvin) Ehlers of Hebron; five grandchildren, Tami (Jack) Nelson of Fremont, Teri (Dana) Estes of Devol, OK, Traci (Mark) Virus of Hebron, Kim (Ron) Engel of Milford, Cheryl (Warren) Brayton of Tremont, IL; nine great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kelsey Sittler, Nicole (Jason) Spicer, Airman First Class Ryan Larson, Trelby, Taelyn, Traven, Taivry Virus, and Breanna Brayton; sister-in-law Fern Pool of Hebron; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
