"158th Field Artillery, 45th Army National Guard Division, Battery C was a special part of the Noble county community, and they marched off to glory in World War II. Some of them were barely 17 years old when they left Perry, but they came home as mature men, proud of the mission they had undertaken. Even at this time, 55 years later, it's not too late to give those brave and heroic men another salute."
William died SEP 1974 in Birmingham AL.

WILLIAM JAMES LEFURGEY, 78, of 1725 Fifth Avenue, South, Irondale, was a former mayor of Irondale. A native of DeKalb County, he was retired from Southern Research Institute. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Irondale, the American Metallurgical Society and the Lions Club. Funeral will be at 11 am Tuesday at Roebuck Chapel with burial in Jefferson Memorial Gardens. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. L.C. Hoffman, Birmingham, Mrs. B.P. Cockerham, Irondale, and Mrs. Harold D. McKelvey, Huntsville, and two sons, W.K. LeFurgey, Hueytown, and E.E. LeFurgey, Gastonia N.C.
