James V. Shankweiler, a retired business man, died Monday morning at 11.30 o'clock at the home of his son, John, near Allentown, aged 74 years, 2 months and 11 days. He had been sick for many weeks. Mr. Shankweiler conducted a general store at Huffs Church for nineteen years and was a member of the Lutheran parish of Huffs church and a trustee of that congregation for many years. He was a son of Benjamin and Sarah, nee Geist, Shankweiler. There survives the widow, Catherine, nee Bittenbender, two sons, Professor John Shankweiler, of Muhlenberg college, and harry, of Carbondale; two daughters, Mrs. A. Z. Rohrbach, Topton, and Mrs. Samuel Fox, Reading, and sixteen grandchildren. The following brothers and sisters also survive: Charles and Frank, Alburtis; Alvin, Boyertown; Benjamin, Los Angeles, Cal.; Mrs. Elam Oberholtzer, Huffs Church. The funeral will be held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late home, Huffs Church, with regular services in Huffs church and interment in the cemetery adjoining. The Rev. William F. Bond will officiate.
