While studying at the University of Moscow in 1916, Ozep's adaptation of Pushkin's 'Queen of Spades' was made into a major motion picture. From there he became a screenwriter and director up to 1928 when he moved to Germany and during the Nazi regime, Ozep fled Germany and went to France. During World War II, Ozep sent to an internment camp and when he was finally freed after the fall of Paris, he relocated to Morocco. He made films in Germany, Italy, Spain, France and the USSR before relocating to Hollywood and later to Quebec, Canada. Ozep was the uncle of Russian director/writer Yuli Raizman (1903-1994), and he was married to actress Anna Sten from 1927 to 1931. Nominated for the Mussolini Cup award at the Venice Film Festival for 1934's "Amok." Director of 17 films and writer of 15 screenplays.
