FUNERAL HELD THURSDAY FOR JOHN NATION

Funeral services were held here Thursday afternoon, July 14th for John Nation, 77, local blacksmith for the past ten years. Death came Tuesday morning, July 12 at 6:10, and resulted from injuries received when he was struck by a car three weeks ago Sunday.

His condition was considered critical from the beginning, but in spite of all, he was able to leave the hospital at Miller and return to his home here after about twelve days. On Friday of last week, he began to lose strength and failed from then on.

John Nation, son of Mr. and Mrs. William F. Nation, was born near Iowa City, Iowa on April 13, 1861, and passed away at his home, at 6:10 Tuesday morning, July 12, 1938 at the age of 77 years and 3 months.

On Jan. 28, 1883 he married Margaret Franks at Essex, Iowa and they made their first home on a farm at Hampton, Nebr., where they resided for 8 years, next homesteading at Wallace, Nebr., where they lived for 6 years. The family then moved to Arnold, Missouri where Mr. Nation practiced his profession of vetinarian for 4 years.

In 1914 he moved his family to a farm near Plankington, S.D. and in 1919 to a farm north of Highmore where they resided until the fall of 1928 when they moved to Ree Heights, where he engaged in the blacksmith work, a profession which he had always followed in connection with his farming and vetinarian work.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Nation were brought up in the faith of the Methodist church.

Mr. Nation was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge. He was also a member of the Hampshire Breeding Association of which he was president for several years.

Mr. Nation will be greatly missed by all who knew him, for he was a friend in need and deed. He looked on life with a smile and always joked with those about him, a trait to which he held until the end.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret and twelve children: Mrs. Will Phillips, Buckley Washington; Lee Nation, Grand Coulee, Was.,; James Nation, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Samuel Riddle, Buckley, Wash.; John Nation, Jr., Ethan, S. D.; Clifford Nation, Sioux City, Ia.; Frank Nation, Ree Heights, S. D.; Mrs. Marshall Goheen, Mitchell, S.D.; Ward Nation, ,Yankton, S.D.; Leonard Nation, Miller, S.D.; Mrs. Wm. Bybee, Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Walter Blaseg, Ree Heights, S.D.; thirty-four grandchildren and ten great grand children; two brothers, Edwin of Crab Orchard, Nebr.,; Walter of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, and a sister, Mrs. Minnie Brainard of Los Angeles, Calif. His parents and two brothers have preceded him in death.

Those of his children who were with him during his last illness were four sons, James, Frank, Ward and Leonard and three daughters, Mrs. Goheen, Mrs. Bybee, and Mrs. Blaseg.

Rev. Arthur Green of the Congregational church had charge of the services and burial was made in Morningside cemetery here.
