ECKRICH OFFICIAL DIES IN FORT WAYNE
Laverne E. Gelow, 64, a former Kalamazoo resident, died Saturday in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Gelow was vice president of Peter Eckrich & Sons, Inc., and immediate past-president of the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Kalamazoo College, Gelow served as regional sales manager for the Gibson Co. here for six years before joining Eckrich in 1939. He was a native of Three Oaks, Mich.
Survivors include his wife, Nita N.; a daughter, Mrs. Sally Witwer, Kokomo, Ind.; and a sister, Mrs. Nina McIntosch, of Michigan City, Ind.
Funeral arrangements are being made by Mungoven & Sons South Chapel, Fort Wayne, Ind.

LAVERNE E. GELOW, ECKRICH V-P, DIES
Laverne E. Gelow, 64, of 1010 Ardis Drive, vice president of Peter Eckrich & Sons Inc., and immediate past-president of the Indiana High School Basketball Hall of Fame, died at 7:30 a.m. today at his residence.
Mr. Gelow, a native of Three Oaks, Mich., had lived in Fort Wayne since 1940 and was vice-president, public and community relations, for Eckrich.
He was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church, Fort Wayne Rotary Club, the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Mizpah Shrine Temple, the Fort Wayne Country Club, and a board member of the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society.
Mr. Gelow was elected to head the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame at its annual meeting, July 1, 1975, in Crawfordsville.
He was regional sales manager for the Gibson Co., Kalamazoo, Mich., for six years before joining Eckrich in 1939. He was the firm's first advertising manager and was the first Eckrich employe to move here when the company shifted its general offices from Kalamazoo to Fort Wayne in 1940.
He received the Key Man Award in 1944 for leadership in Junior Chamber of Commerce projects and in 1966 received the Fort Wayne Advertising Club's Silver Medal Award.
Surviving are his wife Nita N.; a daughter, Mrs. Sally Witwer, Kokomo, and a sister, Mrs. Nina McIntosch, Michigan City.
Arrangements will be by Mungovan & Sons South Chapel.
Preferred memorials are gifts to the American Cancer Society, the American Red Cross, or Plymouth Congregational Church.
