JoAnn was born July 14, 1935 in Hutchinson, Kansas, the first child of Gail Noble Rogers and Jessie Leota Miller Rogers.

JoAnn attended Lamar Union High School and graduated in 1953.She was known for her fast driving skills, which continued throughout her life.

JoAnn worked at J.C. Penney's in the early 60's.She worked at Sandhaven as a CNA prior to attending the nursing program at Otero Jr. College in 1974.She lived in the dormitory with her roommate, Annalise Wagner and commuted home each weekend.She graduated in August 1975 and obtained her LPN license.She started employment at Sacred Heart Hospital in September 1975 on the night shift.The hospital became Prowers Medical Center and JoAnn continued working as an LPN, working there 29 years.After her grandson was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 1993, she became a diabetes educator, constantly learning all she could about the advances of diabetes research.JoAnn was most proud of her seven grandchildren and spouses: Jeremy and Heather Burkhart, Matt Burkhart and his fiance Debrinca Stegman, Lene Burkhart, David Mathis, Reece, Ty and Dylan Rife.

JoAnn was also a member of Lamar Rebekah Lodge #55 and earned the Medal of Chivalry.She also served as advisor for Theta Rho.
In March 2002, she was diagnosed with breast cancer.She was determined to get through her treatments with minimum effect on her lifestyle.She was excited that her tests showed that she was cancer-free in September.After her working November 28 she fell ill. December 9 showed that she had advanced brain cancer that took her life on December 25, 2004 at home in the comfort of her family.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Dick of the family home; Children and spouses, Debbie Mathis, Thornton, CO, Kim and Tim Burkhart, Lamar, Rick and Jolynn Rife of Thornton, CO her six grandsons and only granddaughter her two brothers and sister and their families, her in-laws, J.B. Rife, Merlin and Jackie Rife, Ann Rife, Margaret Moore, a host of cousins, nieces, nephews friends, and co-workers.She was preceded in death by her father in 1968, her mother in 1996.
