Charles Thurman was the son of John Harvey and Margaret Ann (Mounts) Behem. He said he was born in Illinois, the family, who had left Pleasantville, Sullivan county Indiana, perhaps went to Illinois for a short time, but by 1877 they had moved to Keytesville where his mother Margaret Ann Mounts Behem died later. The family moved to Cairo Randolph county where his father John, met and married a widow Mary Howard Jones. They eventually moved back to Keytesville where his parents were living. He went to Silver City in Pottawattamie Iowa to work on a farm in 1902. Around 1907 he moved to Springfield, Greene County Missouri He was the husband of Virginia Virgie Kegley he met in Springfield. They had one child died young. In 1918, he was an Engine Wiper for Frisco RR, later moving around 1930 to Clay County, Missouri and then to Kansas City Missouri around 1935 until 1942, and dying in Ash Grove where he relocated after 1942.

Charles Behem, 70, died at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday night at his home in Ash Grove from burns he received several days ago while working in the yard when his clothing caught fire.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia, two foster daughters, Mrs. Virgie Mae Piper of Kansas City and Mrs. Wilma Montgomery of Augusta, Ga. Funeral services will be Friday at 2 o'clock at the Morris and Leiman funeral home in Ash Grove, with burial in the Ash Grove cemetery.
