Gus graduated from White Cloud High School in 1928 at 16 years of age. He was the salutatorian of his class.
The marriage of Gustav and Connie took place at the Lutheran church in White Cloud, Michigan on June 15, 1936. The Rev. Edward M. Lang officiated. Witnesses were Mrs. Elizabeth Frazer (sister of the birde) and Louis Baldridge. See newspaper account on separate page.
Gustav worked at many things over the years. He once owned a flower shop, see copy of advertisement on separate page. He also sold Mason shoes for about 25 years from his home. His sales route was around White Cloud, Michigan and north for about 25 miles. He also did custom farm work for others while farming himself. He wrote human interest articles for the White Cloud Eagle, the local newpaper. A multi-talented man!
Eleanor Paulsen Towne, a niece of Gustav's, reflects about her Uncle Gus the day after his death, January 8, 1994. As a "young child about 9 to 11 or 12, I would help plant garden plants in flats in the spring time from his green house for 10¢ a flat of 100. He sold them to gardeners. He introduced me to my first boy friend when I was 15 years old. He walked me down the aisle when I was married as my dad was already gone. He stood up for my oldest daughter [Juanita] when she was baptized. Uncle Gus and I were Godparents for Roger Dale Redmann in 1946 - lots and lots of memories."
Millie changed the Redman name to the double "n" on his tombstone.
