The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Neal was born in Caswell Co., to the late Robert Lee and Amy Wall Garrett Neal. He was a 1st lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He owned the Central Hotel in Leaksville for 10 years and was the owner and operator of three local coin laundries and the first coin-operated car wash in Rockingham County. Mr. Neal was an active member of First Presbyterian Church for many years. He served his church as an elder, a deacon and a Sunday School teacher. In addition to his church involvements, he was active in his community with the Meals On Wheels Program and was a charter member of the Eden Kiwanis Club.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Fay Smith Neal of the home; daughters, June Neal of Elkin, Mary Fay Cagle and husband Gary of Asheboro, Sue Pruitt and husband Joey of Cape Carteret; sons, Thomas G. Neal Jr., and wife Sue of Appleton, Wis., Terry E. Neal and wife Arlene of Granite Falls, Donald L. Neal of Charleston, S.C., Stephen A. Neal and wife Ginger of Rocky Mount; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Johnson of Reidsville, Lelia Essic of Mocksville; brothers, Robert Neal of Reidsville, David Neal of Reidsville and Ben Neal of Oxford.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Algernon Neal.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday prior to the service at First Presbyterian Church and other times at the home, 707 Moncure Street in Eden.
