Donald E. Dettmer, son of Albert and Louie (Jenkins) Dettmer, was born September 13, 1930, in the Winkler community and passed away of a heart attack while going for a boat ride at Tuttle Creek Lake on July 7, 1968.

He was baptized on October 26, 1930, and confirmed on September 1, 1946, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Winkler, KS. Donald spent his early years on the family farm and attended Pleasant Prairie School. He served from 1951 to 1955 in the United States Navy. For several years he lived and was employed in Denver, CO, and just recently returned to the family home to farm.

Donald was preceded in death by his mother in October 1967. He is survived by his father of the home; five brothers: Marvin of Leonardville, Wesley of Manhattan, David of Atchison, Neil of Waterville, and Elmer of the home; one sister, (Helen), Mrs. Earl DeWyke of Waterville; and six nieces.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 10, 1968, at the Waterville United Methodist Church with Reverend L. C. Larimer officiating. Mrs. C. H. Younger sang, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" and "Asleep in Jesus" with Mrs. Glen Anderson accompanist. Casket bearers were: Raybern Hagenmaier, Robert Wohler, Earl Glanzer, Duane Sump, Frank Rantschler, and Henry Baker. Internment was in Winkler St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery near Randolph. Arrangements by Youngbergs.
