Ethel M. Blanchfield, age 85, of Wausau, died Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004, at Mount View Care Center under the care of Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services.

She was born Oct. 18, 1918, to Robert and Lena (Olson) Chapman in Portage. Ethel married Earl Blanchfield May 8, 1943, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He preceded her in death Jan. 24, 2003.

Ethel worked for the D.C. Everest School District prior to her retirement. She enjoyed sewing, baking, reading and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ethel was a true example of Christian love and compassion.

Survivors include one son, David (Buris) Blanchfield of Golden, Colorado; three daughters, Mary (Richard) Lemmer of Ringle, Jan (Dave) Grabski of Plover, and Judy Blanchfield of Wausau; seven grandchildren, Kathryn (Todd Roll) Lemmer, Elisabeth (Brad) Gast, Molly Lemmer, David Blanchfield, Todd Blanchfield, Daniel Grabski and Brandon Grabski; two great-grandchildren, Meghan Gast and Maximus Roll; and one sister, Ella Keith of Fruita, Colorado.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and great-grandson, Lucas Gast.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30, 2004, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wausau. The Reverends Greg and Sherry Billberg will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Wausau.
