Kenneth Hugh COOK, 80, Kewanna, passed away at 10:27 p.m. Sunday at the
Woodlawn Hospital emergency room, Rochester.
Born in Richland Township, Fulton County, to Daniel Lewis and Della Leona Babcock
Cook, he married Martha Ann Urbin on March 13, 1946, in Indianapolis. She survives.
Mr. Cook was a retired postmaster from the Kewanna Post Office. He was appointed
postmaster on July 3, 1958, by President Eisenhower. Also, he worked as a bookkeeper at Urbin
Chevrolet, Kewanna. He was a member of Kewanna United Methodist Church and was a former
lay leader, Sunday School teacher and served on many boards at the chuch. He was formerly a
treasurer of the Republican Party of Fulton County, a member of Fulton Economic Development
Corporation (FEDCO), president of Kewanna Ambulance Service which he helped initiate. He
enjoyed writing, poetry and was a Chicago Cubs fan. He graduated from Richland Center High
School in 1941.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Kent G. and Sheri A. Cook, Kewanna, and Kip D.
and Janece M. Cook, Plymouth; two daughters, Kenan S. and Jerry Kimble, Bowling Green, Ky.,
and Katrina K. and John Carlisle, Indianapolis; one brother, Eldrith Cook, Rochester; one sister,
Edith Darkwood, White Pigeon, Mich.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. He was
preceded in death by one brother, Elmer Cook; and one grandson, Bryce Carlisle.
His funeral service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kewanna United Methodist Church with
Rev. Dennis Ingle officiating. Burial is at Citizens IOOF Cemetery, Kewanna. Friends may call
from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Harrison-Metzger Funeral Home, Kewanna Chapel, and one hour
prior to his service at the church. Memorials may be made to Kewanna United Methodist Church.
