He was the son of Samuel Wren and Susanna (Dieffenderfer) Wren. He served as a corporal in the Union army during the Civil War. He was in Company K of the 143rd Pennsylvania Volunteers. He participated in: Battle of the Wilderness and Cold Harbor.
