William Herman was one of twin children of John Henry DeAtley (1842-1911) and Sarah J. Byan (b.ca.1844). The twin lived from May 1880 to June 1880.
He married to Alice Malinda Smith.
Alice was born in 1882 and died in 1912 from TB. James Robert also died later of TB when he was 26. Four of the children were raised by families nearby. Mabel and Harold stayed with their father. He left once and was not heard from again. Rumor has it that he was killed on a steamboat on the Ohio River and robbed. Mabel and Harold stayed with different Hilderbran families, James Robert lived with the Smiths who were relatives and John was raised by other relatives called Carter.
Homer and Alice appear in the 1910 census of Franklin Township, Adams County, Ohio, with 3 children (John, Harold, and Mabel) and Homer's father in the home. Homer was a farmer.
