Byron B. Ballard Sr. 87 died May 18, 2002 at Sebasticook Valley Hospital in Pittsfield following a brief illness. He was born in Washburn Oct. 18, 1914 the son of Harry F. and Abbie (Crouse) Ballard Sr.. Byron attended schools in Fairfield Center. He started working as a very young man to help support his family during the depression. Byron married Doris Seekins April 5, 1941 in St. Albans. He owned and operated a dairy farm in St. Albans for over 45 years, the last 25 in partnership with his son Bruce. He also worked with his son Timothy at the family sawmill in St. Albans. Byron was a member of the St. Albans Union Church in St. Albans. He was a charter member of the Somerset Farm Bureau, a past supervisor for the Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District. He was a member of the United Dairy Coop and a delegate to the annual meeting in Vermont for several years.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years Doris H. Ballard of St. Albans, two sons and their wives Byron B. and Carolyn Ballard Jr. of Pittsfield, Bruce B. and Rosemary Ballard of St. Albans, one daughter and her husband Diane D. and Robert Landry of St. Albans, one brother Sheldon Ballard of Troy, four sisters, Dorothy Clark of Southwest Harbor, Adeline Wood of Houston TX. Florence Wood of Baltimore MD. Joanne Greenleaf of Lancaster Calif., 10 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his son Timothy, three brothers; Elbridge, Donald, Harry Jr., three sisters; Beryl, Myrtle, Frances, two grandsons Jimmy and Steven.
