Helen M. Knoll, 91, of Des Moines passed away surrounded by her family Thursday, January 6, 2011 at Iowa Health Hospice Taylor House. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 10 at First Presbyterian Church, 3100 Easton Blvd, of which she was a member. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Helen was born on March 29, 1919 in Story County, IA to Severt and Mary Erickson. She lived in the Des Moines area most of her life and worked for several years at the Polk County Juvenile Home. Following retirement she moved to Horseshoe Bend, AR and returned to Des Moines in 1997. She was a member of the American Business Women's Association and Red Hat Society. She enjoyed shopping, Iowa Hawkeye football, crafts and spending time with her family and friends.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Betty (Pete) Leo; two step-sons, Mike and Denny Knoll; three grandchildren, Pete (Shari) Leo, Carol (Brian) Schulz and Karen (Jerry) Glenn; seven great-grandchildren, Tony, Nick, Brian, Joey, Alison, Krista and Cole; brother-in-law, Howard Brooks; sister-in-law, Margaret Erickson; a cousin, nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Knoll; nine brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, January 9 at Iles Funeral Homes-Grandview Park Chapel. Memorial contributions may be directed to her family, her church or Taylor House.
