Born at home at Long Hay Flat, the homestead centrally located between Shingletown, Manton & Viola.
Sallie married Charles Spangle in 1926 and they moved to Gazelle in March of 1927. She was known to me as Grandma Edgmon. She divorced Charles Spangle in 1944 and married Fred Edgmon in 1956, before I was born. He died soon after I was born and I never knew him.
Her memoirs were typed by friends at her church as a Mother's Day gift. She had been in some kind of a funny fashion show that day, won the contest and her prize was having her memoirs typed. I may be confused a little on how that came about, but I was there that day at church. It was just a long time ago. She gave all of her children a copy of her memoirs and they were passed on to the grandchildren who were interested.
She'd been a long time resident of Millville. She lived alone after Fred passed and took care of herself to the end. She babysat other children for extra income. She loved to embroider and quilt. She had a garden and canned. She loved her family and she loved Jesus.
Grandma was taken from her home in Millville to the hospital in Redding, Shasta, California where she passed away at the age of 78.
As a wonderful Christian woman, I know my grandmother prayed for me. She didn't live to see me come to faith, but I did when I was 40. Sometimes we don't live to see our prayers answered, but never give up. I think when I get to heaven, she will be one of the first I see, waiting with open arms. Look forward to that reunion.
