Burton was killed by a ran-away pony cart. He was a son of Moses Locke Alsup and Martha "Patsy" Grant. He married Mary Catherine Sprague, and had 5 children, Ida May, 1874-1897, Adella "Della", 1876, Harriett, 1878, Garfield T., 1881, and Arthur H., 1884. After the death of Burton, his wife Mary C. married 25 Apr 1903, William Murr, as his 3rd wife.
