Jane Frances Bigelow was born on 11 October 1839 to John and Jane Ashley (Hinman) Bigelow in Hartford, Connecticut. She was their first child.

Jane never married. She died at home on 18 October 1909 in Northampton, Massachusetts from ovarian cancer. She was 70 years old.

Her niece, Jane Ashley Bigelow, inherited her house on Phillips Place (Northampton, MA) after her death.
