Harold Oliver Whitney, a resident of Long Beach, MS, died Tuesday, February 17, 2004, in Gulfport, MS. Mr. Whitney was a native of Macon County, Illinois, and resided in Milton, WI, prior to moving to Long Beach. He served in the U.S. Navy and was owner and operator of Backhawk Campground. He was a member of the VFW in Janesville, WI; was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, and was an avid card player and a life-master bridge player. Mr. Whitney was preceded in death by his parents, George A. and Catherine Ann Roseberry Whitney; and sisters, Georgia Faulk, Alta Ruth McKibben, and Marjorie Stogsil. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Whitney, of Long Beach; sons, Michael (Anne) Whitney, of Lockport, IL; Thomas (Sheila) Whitney, Harold (Becky) Whitney, and Paul (Sundy) McMurray, all of Milton, WI, and Gary (Jane) Whitney, of Levonia, MO; a daughter, Susan (Peter) Bradley, of Milton, WI; 20 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2004, at Riemann Funeral Home in Long Beach. The funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, February 23, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Long Beach, followed by burial in the National Cemetery in Biloxi, MS. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Catholic Church, 720 E. Beach Blvd., Long Beach, MS 39560; or to the charity of one's choice.
