John Lanier III was born Abt. 1634 and was wounded in battle at Steenkirk on Aug. 3, 1692 and died of his wounds Aug. 29, 1692.

John Lanier III, son of John II and Eleanor (?) Lanier and grandson of John and Frances (Galliardello) Lanier.

John Lanier III, married Florence (?), daughter of (?).

John Lanier III was a professional soldier who distinguished himself in battle in France, Ireland and Scotland. John Lanier III became the Governor of the Isle of Jersey From 1679 to 1684, under King Charles II. John Lanier III became colonel of the queen's regiment of horse, now the 1st dragoon guards, in 1687, and later was promoted to lieutenant-general in 1688. He declared allegiance with King William III and was dispatched to Scotland to take Edinburgh Castle, which surrendered to him on June 12, 1689 and was soon knighted "Knight of his valor", for the capture of Edinburgh Castle in Scotland by King William who reigned as William III over England and Ireland, and as William II over Scotland. Sir John Lanier III led his regiment at the battle of Byone on Jul. 1, 1690, and at the siege of Lemerick in Aug. 1690, also at Lanesborough Pass Dec. 1690 with Kirke, and at the battle of Aughrim on Jul. 12, 1691. Sir John Lanier III was appointed in 1692 as one of the King's Generals of Horse in Flanders. Later later that year in Aug. of 1692, Sir John Lanier III was badly wounded at the Battle of Steenkirk and died a few days later, Aug. 29, 1692 in London, England.

Sir John Lanier, one of his Majesties Lieutenants General. Who was at the Reduction of Scotland and Ireland, and dyed at Brussels, of his Wounds he received at the Battle of Engein in Flanders, 1692.
