Stefano, "Sam" Abbruzzese was born in Italy to Pasquali Abbruzzese and Luigia Marino Abbruzzese. He immigrated in 1902 via the ship Nord America when he was 22 yrs. old, that left Napoli and arrived in New York. He settled in Des Moines, Iowa, and worked for himself as a fruit merchant. He married Leticia DeBonis Feb. 9, 1917. Her parents were Vincenzo DeBonis and Anna Mauro DeBonis also from Italy. Leticia immigrated in 1908. This was his first marriage, I believe, as that's what he said on the marriage registration, however, on the passenger list he said he was married. I was unable to find a name of a wife. There was a child, Mary, that was buried at the age of 1 yr. on 9/15/1920 in the St. Ambrose cemetery in Des Moines where Sam and Lizzie are buried, Therefore, I believe they were the parents of Mary. In a census report, Louise Cecelia Abrizzese was listed as daughter of Sam and Lizzie, born 2/9/1921, and in a 1920 census, Lizzie was living with 2 daughters, Gilda A. and Adeline L Monoco, who was 17. She was a step daughter. She married Anthony De Filippo, and moved to Conn., & they are buried in Conn. This was all the information I could find in Ancestry, other than a list of Abruzzese in a directory: Anthony F. (Carmela) who worked at Tony's Pool Hall. He lived at 1611 Linden in D.M. Clara B, an operator at Brody Mkg. Co., lived at the same address. and Mary L., also an operator at Brody Mfg. Co. was living at the same address. Letezia, widow of Sam'l, lived at 81 1/2 6th Ave., and Louise M., an operator at U.S. Rubber Co., also at the same address. Therefore, I believe, all these Aburezzese's are related.
