COCCA, JAMES"VINCE" WATERVLIET - James "Vince" Cocca, 81, died Monday, December 27, 2010 at his home in Watervliet. Born in Watervliet on December 5, 1929, he was the son of the late Vincenzo and Michelina Dascoli Cocca. Vince was a proud graduate of Watervliet High School, class of 1948 where he played on the soccer team and was the manager of the football team. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was employed briefly by the Watervliet Arsenal. He worked in the family businesses, Cocca's Diner and Cocca's Motels and Inns & Suites for many years as a business associate. Vince was a member of the CRS Post and the Simonian Avakian Post both in Watervliet. He played softball at Congress Park in Watervliet for the CRS Post and Cocca's. He also enjoyed bowling. Vince was a dedicated Watervliet Cannoneer sports fan attending all of the Cannoneer sporting events especially girls basketball and boys baseball where he always sat in the front row rooting on the kids and assisting the umpires and referees with all the calls. He could also be found most summer nights at the Watervliet Little League where the kids fondly called him "Coach Cocca". He enjoyed his two boxers dogs and his greatest joy in life were his children and grandchildren. He is the beloved husband of Cheryl Fitzpatrick Cocca, Devoted father of William (Robin) Kennedy, III of Green Island, Carla (Steve) Podlucky of Colonie and Vincent Cocca of Watervliet, Proud grandfather of Marissa McIntyre, Keara and Jaiden Kennedy and Jacob Podlucky, Loving brother of Rose (late Joseph) Squillace of Watervliet, Julia (Anthony) Falco of Mechanicville, Mary Cocca of Watervliet and the late Frank (late Marietta) Cocca, Sr., Louise (late David) McClure, Louis (wife Alice of Cohoes) Cocca, Cousin of Michael (Marian) Cocca Sr., and Frank (Theresa) Cocca, Sr. both of Green Island and Jack and Joe Basle. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Thursday at 9:15 am from the Parker Bros. Memorial, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 10:00 am at St. Anthony Shrine Church in Troy where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mario Julian, OFM. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Mausoleum, Troy. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
