Haskell Choate, 81, of Calumet, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, in Bartlesville.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Calumet Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Ervin officiating. Arrangements are under direction of Turner Funeral Home in Hinton.

He was born Oct. 24, 1929, in Mountain View to Thomas A. and Ollie Leona Dixon Choate.

He married Patsy Pointer in April 1950. He later married Henrietta "Shorty" Dowling on Feb. 20, 1970, in El Reno.

He was employed for the city of Calumet doing various jobs, including police officer, working at the water plant, as a mechanic and as a firefighter, retiring in 1985.

He was a member of the First Christian Church in Calumet.

Survivors include his wife, Henrietta of Dewey; five children, Reba Crawford and husband Buster of Dewey, Susan Murray of Chico, Texas, Bill Choate and wife Bennie Jo of Childress, Texas, Kelly Choate and Van Choate and wife Sherry, all of Bridgeport, Texas; four brothers, Billy Thomas Choate of Calumet, Freeman Choate and wife Brenda of California, Dean Choate and wife Judy of Eufaula and Wayne Choate and wife Cathy of Yukon; three sisters, Emma Phillips of Hydro, Sylvia Stubblefield of Dimmitt, Texas, and Viola Russell of Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three infant children, one sister and four brothers.
