Martha Ellen Carson, aged 83 years, died at the Harken Hospital Sunday, July 8. She had been in failing health for some time and her death was not unexpected. A brief account of her illness was published in last week's Sentinel.
The funeral services were held at the Ottawa church Tuesday and burial was made in the Ottawa cemetery. The services were conducted by Reverend Kesterson.
The obituary will appear next week.

Mrs. Ellen Carson.
Martha Ellen Chambers was born at Attica, Montgomery county, Indiana, November 12, 1839, and died at a hospital in Osceola, Iowa, on July 8, 1923, aged 83 years, 6 months, 26 days.
In the fall of 1856 she moved with her parents to Marion county, Iowa where she resided until she was married to James W. Carson, September 28, 1871. To this union were born four children, Robert C. of Creston, Iowa, Edward C. of Woodburn, Iowa, Marshall A. who died in 1888, and Mrs. Cordia Cutter of Coin, Iowa. All were with her at the last.
She leaves to mourn her departure, two sons, one daughter and one step-son, Wm. H. of Woodburn, Iowa, twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren, two brothers and three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Bruffey of Mountain Grove, Missouri, Mrs. Lydia Christ of Colfax, Iowa, Mrs. Lizzie Elrod of San Diego, California, Mr. A. T. Chambers of California, and Rev. R. C. Chambers of Grand Junction, Iowa. Five sisters and three brothers preceded her to the Great Beyond.
She was converted and joined the M. E. church at Indiana Chapel in Marion county, at the age of sixteen years and was a member of that church until 1866, then joined by letter the U. B. church at the Ottawa school house and was a faithful member until her death.
She moved to Clarke county in 1871, and has since resided on the same farm for 52 years.
She was a loving, devoted wife and mother, and leaves a host of relatives and friends who sincerely mourn her departure. But they do not mourn as those without hope, as the beautiful lines of Thanatopsis express it, she had "so lived that when her summons came, she went not as a quarry slave scourged to her dungeon, but sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust, wrapped the drapery of her couch around her and lay down to pleasant dreams."
Those attending the funeral from out of town were Mrs. Minnie Chambers, sister-in-law; Mrs. Bertha Rowland and Mrs. Stella Tucker, nieces, and R. N. Chambers, a nephew, all of Knoxville, Iowa.
