Son of Jonathan Leland. Died from an injury he received while trying to harness a horse. He married Julia Jenks, July 23, 1840 in Winnebago county, IL. Solomon and Alvin Leland came to Roscoe Township in 1838. He opened the first store in the house of Albert Tuttle in 1838. He bought land in Section 33 of Roscoe Township, and in Section 35 in the year 1840. Known child: Julia Sophia (she died in Sutton, Massachusetts in May 19, 1850 at the age of 8 1/2 years of age).
