Waylon was born March 7, 1931 in the Swift community to O.A. Wheeler and Jessie Bridges Wheeler. He was a retired auto parts business owner and member of Triune Masonic Lodge No. 15 in San Antonio and had recently moved back to Nacogdoches two months ago. Mr. Wheeler died Thursday in a Nacogdoches hospital.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Edith Marie Hodges Wheeler, Nacogdoches; one son Terry Wheeler, Pipe Creek; one daughter Patti Matejka, Bryan; five brothers Gilbert Wheeler, Nacogdoches; Robert Wheeler, Groveton; Otis Wheeler and Raymond Wheeler, both of Houston; and Wayne Wheeler, Port Neches; two sisters, Murlene Banks and Verleen Veale, both of Friendswood; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Saturday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Taylor and Chuck Long officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Laird Funeral Home, Nacogdoches.
