She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl William Banks and her son, Barry Hunter Banks.
Murl spent the first 20 years of her marriage raising her two boys, and was involved in all their activities, PTA, Sunday school, Boy Scouts, band and even family camping. She always loved sewing and creating beautiful clothes and was always impeccably dressed. When she and Carl moved to Friendswood in 1971 with an empty nest, they bought “Buttons and Bows,” a small fabric store which she ran and later expanded adding Bernina sewing machines. She taught many classes for adults and children. When she retired and closed Buttons and Bows after 20 years, she was appointed Honorary Mayor of Friendswood for the day. She loved Friendswood and her church family at Friendswood United Methodist where she was a long-time member.
She was an avid Bridge player. She played regularly in several bridge clubs but with one in particular for over 40 years. She continued playing until her move to west Houston in February 2019. For those desiring, in lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Friendswood United Methodist Church for the Building Fund, 110 North Friendswood Drive, Friendswood, Texas 77546 or to the charity of your choice.
A memorial service to honor her memory will be scheduled at a later date.
