Peter Drout is one of 24 Civil War Veterans buried in Maple Hill Cemetery including one confederate veteran. The organization "Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War" ordered 7 new government gravestones and Boy Scout Troop 28 from North Aurora, IL installed those on May 14, 2016 along with cleaning and straightening existing Civil War gravestones. Anthony Hernandez, a boy scout from troop 28 received his Eagle Scout status for taking charge of this project. There will be a dedication ceremony for this project on Saturday, September 17, 2016 at 1:00 P.M. dedicating the 7 new gravestones and honoring all 24 Civil War Veterans at the cemetery.

There is a headstone in Maple Hill Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois for Peter and his wife Caroline. But according to his death record, obituaries, and military record he was interred in Troutman Grove Cemetery.
