Born in Albany, NY. Died ae 82 yr 1 mo 3 da.
Leonard was born to his parents at the very end of the Revolutionary War. He lived in Manlius, Onondaga, NY as a child until his marriage. Upon his marriage, his father-in-law, Conrad Lower, bestowed land in Sullivan, Madison, NY to Leonard and his wife, on Salt Springs Road, where the house, built in about 1803, remained in Bettinger hands for about 130 years, being farmed the entire time.

At his death on 11 Sep 1863, he was buried in the family cemetery on 13 Sep 1863. He remained there until the death of his wife, Lana/Lany on 5 Jan 1868. With the ground too cold to dig up, they remained in a vault and in the ground until 20 May 1868, when his coffin was exhumed from the Bettinger Family Cemetery and buried at Oakwood Cemetery on Lake St in Chittenango, along with his wife and several children in the family who had been buried at the Bettinger Cemetery originally.
