Robert Edward 'Bob' Cannon, 78, Orangeburg, died Sunday evening at his residence. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Cannon was born in orangeburg a son of the late Frank Grady Cannon and Lila Dukes Cannon. He graduated from Orangeburg High School and the University of SC, Class of 1954 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering. He was a U S Navy Korean War veteran serving as Operations Officer aboard the destroyer USS Harold J. Ellison DD 864. He joined the Trane Company in 1958. In 1969 He formed the Cannon Company, Inc. a manufacturer's representative for Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Equipment, serving the State of South Carolina, specializing in school classroom air-conditioning.

He was a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), Orangeburg Rotary Club, Orangeburg Country Club Board of Directors, American Legion Post 4 Orangeburg, Elks Club Orangeburg, and a member of the New Product Advisory Committee for Marvair Air Conditioning Company, a Division of Airxcel, Inc, Cordele GA.

One of his particular pleasures, other than the love of family, was playing drums in several of the local area dance bands such as 'The talk of the Town', 'Santee River Jazz' and occasionally with 'The Moonlighters' of Elloree, SC . Band Members include Foster Boone-Trumpet & Singer, Bob Moore-Keyboard, Don Rohn- Saxophone, Milt Felder-Trumbone & Trumpet

Pallbearers are Everette Salley, W.S. 'Billy' Tyler, Warren L. Clarke, D.D. Salley III, Virgil C. Hutchins Jr, Charles Kinsley and William J. Martin.

Mr Cannon is survived by his wife Carol Jeffords Cannon of the home. A son, Robert E Cannon Jr of Columbia, SC, a Daughter Caroline 'Missy' Cannon Smoak of St Matthews, SC. Grandchildren include Caroline Frances Smoak and Robert Marston Smoak both of St Matthews, SC. Robert E. Cannon III and Adelaide Grace Cannon both of Columbia, SC and a number of nieces and nephews .

Visitation Tuesday December 28, 2010 at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to Heartstrings Hospice, 115 Blarney Dr., Columbia, SC 29223 or to a charity of choice.
