Funeral services for John Detlie, who passed away at his home 318 Water Street Sunday, July 15, following a short illness were held this afternoon, Wednesday, July 18, at the Anderson Mortuary with the Rev. Blikstad of Vang Lutheran Church officiating at 2 p.m. Burial was made in the Vang Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Chris Hagen, Carl Berge, Alfred Svien, Nicholas Almen, Ivar and Edward Ellingboe.
John Detlie was born July 17, 1873, at Opdal, Norway. He spent his young lifetime there and when a young man came with his family to the United States in 1904. He was engaged in farming in the Vang area until 1940 where he continued to make his home until retirement, when they moved to Northfield. Mrs. Detlie passed away in March 1955.
Mr. Detlie is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Oliver Machacek (Ingeborg) and Mrs. Edward Johnson (Georgienne) both of Northfield; Mrs. John Ryan (Marie), Farmington; and Mrs. Frederick and Mrs. Charles Smith (Florence) of River Pines, Calif; eight sons, Carl, Arthur, Oscar and Julius of Northfield; Torlof and Rudolph, Inver Grove; Martin, Red Wing; and Henry Oakland, Calif.; and one sister Mrs. Olaf Olson of River Falls, Wis.
